Another new offering for Vokel is the North Coast Cabernet. This luscious Cabernet is made in the same style as the previously released Alexander Valley Cabernet. The fruit sourced for this wine is from a group of small vineyard sites spanning from northern Sonoma County into Mendocino County. Working with multiple sites develops layers in this wine not found in a single vineyard offering. The microclimates of the North Coast truly shine here. Approachable now or able to lay down for the next few years, this Cab is a crowd pleaser.
The "X" blend is inspired by the loss of Dana's mother in 2016. Folks have asked for quite some time if Vokel would be making a blend and for years we have said we hadn't found the proper inspiration. Well... This is the year. An extended barrel-aged bordeaux blend showcases the complexity of four varietals, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. A soft balance of fruit and tannin makes this wine enjoyable on its own or with a wide range of foods.
This vineyard is a fantastic replacement for the Luther Family. The Hanson family is another true steward of the land, treating this small vineyard with the utmost of care. The name for the vineyard is fitting, with 2024 being the year that we knew we would no longer be able to access fruit from our previous Coombsville site. Destiny presented itself in the form of a comment when Dana was scrolling through Facebook. A post by another winemaker seeking a buyer for his extra Sauvignon Blanc grapes happened to create a mini grape sales forum, with a few others commenting that they had extra fruit as well. A quick message to Ray (the owner of this fine plot of land) and within 24 hours he and Dana were shaking hands in the vineyard. We guess you could say it truly was Destiny. This vintage again utilizes our custom built and toasted new French oak barrels, tempering the intense, earthy fruit characteristics that shine in Coombsville. If you're new to the mailing list and have yet to sample our Coombsville Cabernet, you're mising out! This wine will have incredible aging potential. Lay it down for 5-10 years or be a rebel and enjoy it fresh!
